AECP Level 1 Irresistible Inking Techniques

Sara Naumann taught this course and the techniques are truly irresistible. She not only taught techniques for the focal point but also for using ink in the matting for the cards. This subtly dressed them up!

I chose to do ink faux water color, where I smooshed the ink pads onto my glass surface, spritzed water nearby and used a brush to pick up the water to dilute the ink, basically turning it into watercolor paint. I wanted to see if I could make it look truly like watercolors and used several different colors for each subject of my pieces. Sometimes when I use watercolors I end up with small pigment specks in my finished product and I’m sure it’s because I didn’t mix my paint thoroughly. One benefit of this technique is that this issue doesn’t happen with ink!

First, I treated my Classic Crest Solar White 110# cardstock with my antistatic tool, stamped the Paint-a-Flower Rose with my VersaMark Watermark Stamp Pad, sprinkled Altenew’s Rose Gold embossing powder and used my heat tool to melt it. Next I painted the images as described above with some of the following Altenew Crisp Dye Inks on each card: Lavender Fields; Hydrangea; Deep Iris; Azurite; Turquoise; Rouge; Coral Bliss; Snapdragon; Caramel Toffee; Polar Bear; Sunray; Fresh Lemon; Citrus Burst; Sweet Leaf; Just Green; Ultramarine and Mango Smoothie. Finally, I adhered each onto a card base of the same cardstock.

I love how each turned out! Do you have a favorite? Please leave a comment!

  1. The second photo, the angled one, is why we ask people to share photos at different angles. Because just look at the beauty of your card, only because that gold shows through, and we can see the watercolor better as well.
I also like the soft blue color wash you added. It gives a nice base to the bouquet. Gorgeous work again, Leslie. Thank you so much for sharing!
