My name is Leslie Hasen. I am an operating room nurse by profession, paper crafter by passion! As my work was becoming more and more stressful, I found I really needed a creative outlet. I stumbled across card making around 2008, really got into it in 2017, and have increasingly enjoyed it, even more than spinning and knitting! In January of 2022 I was “invited” by Altenew to participate in their Altenew Educator Certification Program. I’ll be posting photos of my “homework” here.
What else would you like to know? I’m fascinated with the world. I see something and I want to make it, which has led to many hobbies. As a child I learned to do embroidery, taught myself crochet, knitting, and leatherwork, learned in junior high school how to cook and sew…which led to quilting and costume making. In high school I learned how to make jewelry using several different techniques. Next month I’ll learn a new technique—working with silver clay!! My pastor taught me wood carving, which I still enjoy. Knitting led me to spinning, and weaving, and then getting fiber animals (cashmere goats, alpacas, Shetland sheep). I studied pottery for a couple years, still have my electric wheel taking up space in my large tool shed. Mosaics led me to stained glass. My love of baking led me to cake decorating, as presentation is everything, right?! I tend my own rose garden with three dozen rose varieties, and my orchard with nearly twenty fruit trees, only one of which was here when I moved in. I also am a small scale beekeeper, with just a couple hives. So far they’ve not stung any of my horses, dogs, cats, cockatoos or chickens.
